DYNAMIC CONFRONTATIONAL ENGAGEMENT
Law enforcement training programs have become so
complicated and protracted that the majority of officers easily forget
what they were taught, or fail to practice it.
NAPS instructors have reviewed hundreds of law enforcement videos of
active engagements. In each engagement, when the officer encountered an
emergency situation, they reverted back to their most resident
training. The immediate response was similar to a schoolyard brawl.
This method of defense, in the majority of cases, caused unnecessary
injury to the officer. After reviewing the officers responses, NAPS
instructors could not find any formalized training which was parallel.
This confirmed our belief that convoluted, protracted or ego-driven
training does not protect officers, but instead sells products, videos,
and trainers self-designed programs.
The majority of officers are not weight lifters, martial artists, or
defensive tactics instructors. Most officers don't apply techniques to
co-operative fellow student/officers. Trainers need to develop programs
which continually reinforce basics throughout every call for service or
interaction. The response will immediately take effect in a
confrontational or escalating
confrontational event.
NAPS instructors have developed a program based on proven techniques
that reinforce officer safety and appropriate response through
realistic and confirmational training.
"Dynamic Confrontational Engagement" is a course of
instruction which encourages the officer to use these techniques in
order to manage a low risk contact to a dynamic escalating engagement.
The system is based on a solid platform from the officer's "Position of
Interview". The officer can escalate up through the entire continuum of
force and de-escalate using industry proven law enforcement defensive
techniques and be successful.
The constant application of communication, command presence, and
officer safety has proven its place in law enforcement for numerous
years. Yet we continue to train officers in complicated, protracted
hand and foot positions which work positively in a controlled classroom
with co-operative student officers.
Dynamic Confrontational Engagement curriculum includes
communication, command presence, appropriate application of chemical
agents, impact weapons, and lethal force. The result is an officer
who's resident memory engages and the officer immediately reacts and
wins the confrontation with minimal negative outcome to the officer and
the individual who elected to engage the officer. "Paper targets don't
shoot back/compliant students don't fight".
NAPS will adapt the curriculum to fit your departmental policies and
procedures. This collaboration of trainer, administrator and officer
will have a direct effect on risk management and a positive delivery of
police service. Realistic and consistent training is a major offset
should "deliberate indifference" issues arise.
