CAREER PROGRAM FOR BAIL RECOVERY AGENTS
Course Overview

POWERS TO ARREST/LEGAL ASPECTS (11 Hours)

GOAL- To provide students with the knowledge of current state and federal case law that regulates bail recovery agents. To also provide the student with a clear understanding on what crime was committed and whether or not to make an arrest. This is also a state certified course, regulated by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.

OBJECTIVE- On completion of this phase of instruction, the student should be able to outline the origin and development of law, discuss the classification of crimes, identify and discuss the corpus delicti of crimes and outline and discuss the concepts of laws of arrest.

OFFICER SAFETY (5 Hours)

GOAL- To provide the student with an understanding of actual street hazards and exercise proper safety fundamentals when dealing with potentially dangerous situations.

OBJECTIVE- On completion of this phase of instruction, the student should be able to discuss and demonstrate an understanding of the proper responses to critical incidents, how to conduct a proper high risk building search, how to evacuate
personnel, how to arrest a violent and resisting offender, how and when to involve himself in a critical incident.

BASIC BATON (30 Hours)

GOAL- To provide the student with practical, effective and ethical means of self defense utilizing the various batons and using the most effective techniques for the circumstance.

OBJECTIVE- On completion of this phase of instruction, the student should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the proper baton carrying and removal, proper ready position. knowledge of the strike and avoidance area, defensive techniques and proper means used to subdue a suspect.

PEPPER SPRAY/MACE (3 Hours)

GOAL- To provide the student with an understanding of the laws and regulations that govern the use of chemical agents or pepper spray. To assist the student in obtaining the necessary skills needed to use chemical agents or pepper spray.

OBJECTIVE- On completion of this phase of instruction, the student should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the proper use and techniques of chemical agents and discuss the situation in which the use of chemical agents/pepper spray is justified.

BASIC FIREARMS (39 Hours)

GOAL- To provide the student with the basic skills necessary to properly and lawfully carry and utilize a firearm in the course of duty. To provide the student with the laws and authority that will govern the carrying and use of deadly force.

OBJECTIVE- On completion of this phase of instruction, the student should be able to discuss the legal aspects of deadly force, discuss and demonstrate the proper methods of firearms handling, discuss the decision making process of a "shoot and don't shoot" situation, know proper range safety procedures, weapons cleaning and operation and demonstrate an understanding of the legal aspects of deadly force.

HANDCUFFING (12 Hours)

GOAL- To provide students with basic handcuffing skills that will assist the officer in the field. These skills will focus on the proper handcuffing techniques that the officer may have to utilize. These techniques will insure both suspect and officer safety.

OBJECTIVE- On completion of this phase of instruction, the student should be able to effect a safe and controlled suspect approach, gain maximum control of the suspect and situation while using the minimum amount of force. apply the handcuffs using one of the handcuffing techniques and conduct a full and safe body search of the suspect.

SURVIVING EDGED WEAPONS (2 Hours)

GOAL- To provide the officer with a basic knowledge of how to react to a knife attack.

OBJECTIVE- On completion the student will know his limitations of confronting a subject armed with an edged weapon. He will also know the capabilities and limitations of the equipment on his duty belt, when involving himself in a situation with a subject armed with a knife.

FIRST AID (8 Hours)

GOAL- To provide the student with an understanding of the basic first aid skills to be employed in an emergency situation.

OBJECTIVE- On completion of this phase of instruction, the student should be able to discuss and demonstrate the proper and necessary first aid treatment required in an emergency, such as burns, shock, gunshot wounds, knife wounds or other serious injuries.

CPR (8 Hours)

GOAL- To provide the student with the understanding and skills in order to properly employ CPR when needed.

OBJECTIVE- On completion of this phase of instruction, the student should be able to discuss and demonstrate the necessary skills that need to be employed on an individual requiring CPR.

PHYSICAL TRAINING/INSPECTION (1 Hour Daily)

GOAL- To provide the student with more confidence as well as prepare him for the rising challenge of his new career.

OBJECTIVE- The student will be in better physical condition and more confident with his appearance. We will make special conditions for the physically challenged.
